The church served as the general headquarters and military hospital for revolutionary forces, and it was from the convent’s balcony that General Martin Delgado declared the famous “Cry of Sta. Barbara” in 1898, marking the first time the Philippine flag was raised in the Visayas. Constructed from adobe and coral stones, the church features a neoclassical facade with intricate stained glass windows and three elaborate altars inside.
