Sarangani Bay has a rich coastal and marine resource which features its famous tuna fish. Under the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape bill, the site should be protected while ensuring the conservation of its economic, biological, socio-cultural, educational, and scientific values for the enjoyment of the Sarangani people. In March 2019, marine researchers from Sarangani Environmental Conservation and Protection Center (ECPC) spotted three to five possible new migrants of whalesharks (locally known as butanding) in Sarangani Bay.
