According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the king was considered the wisest and bravest man on the Island of Sugbu. He reigned over eight chieftains and over 2,000 lancers by the time the Spaniards arrived in 1521.
The expedition’s chronicler described the great chieftain as a short, heavyset man with fierce fire patterns painted on his face.
