Moriones Lenten Rites

MarinduqueFestival Date: April 07, 2023 The Moriones Lenten Rites, or the Moriones Festival, is one of the most iconic celebrations in the Philippines. Held during Holy Week, the festival sees locals dressed in eleborate costumes and masks representing Roman soldiers, or centurions, from the Bible. Called ‘moriones,’ the costumed folk parade around Marinduque depicting Christ’s Passion. The event culminates in the reenactment of the beheading of Longinus, the soldier who pierced the side of Christ with a spear.
