Get DirectionsThe Luzon Datum of 1911 in Mogpog town is a stone marker located atop the hill known to locals as Mataas na Bundok or Mt. Mataas. The datum, also known as Station Balanacan, was installed in 1911 by the US Coast and Geodetic Survey to mark the site as the geodetic center of the country. It is now managed and maintained by locals under the direction of the provincial government and a community-based ecotourism program.
The site has an almost 360-degree, wide-ranging view of Tayabas Bay, Mongpong Pass, and Tablas Strait. To serve the needs of tourists and guests, a visitor’s center near the end of the regular access road is under construction.
