Diyandi Festival

Iligan City, Lanao del NorteFestival Date: September 28, 2023 Diyandi Festival, held every September, honors Iligan City’s patron Saint Michael the Archangel. The festival’s uniqueness stems from the thousands of Christians, Muslims, and Higaonons who unite and grace the streets with music, dance, colors, and cultural displays to show their dedication to the city’s angel. The festival is named after the Iliganon word ‘diyandi,’ which means celebrate. The festival begins with the Pagpakanaug, which is when Saint Michael is transferred from the altar to a pedestal and carried around the city in a procession. Diyandi also includes Komedya, or Comedia de San Miguel, a reenactment of Saint Michael’s battle against Satan in a dance called ‘eskrima.’ It then ends with the vibrant kasadya, which unites Iliganons in a parade of dances.What to wearComfortable clothes and shoesWhat to bringWater, sun protection TRAVEL TIPS
