Known as the country’s oldest Roman Catholic church and a declared national shrine, the historic landmark also holds the name Santo Niño Basilica and Minor Basilica of the Holy Child of Cebu. It was built in 1565 by Augustinian friars and was entitled “Basilica Minore” 400 years after its construction.
The basilica blends Romanesque, neoclassical, and Muslim features, showcasing a well-preserved stone facade. Turn right onto Osmeña Boulevard and the basilica will be on your left. If you are coming from the South, take the Cebu North Coastal Road and exit at the Plaza Independencia. Turn left onto Osmeña Boulevard and the basilica will be on your right. If you opt to take public transportation, take a jeepney or bus to the Plaza Independencia.
