Butuan CityFestival Date: May 01, 2024 Every May, locals celebrate the historic ‘balangay’ boats and the cultural heritage of Butuan (formerly the Rajahnate of Butuan). Recognized as the first wooden watercraft discovered in Southeast Asia, the balangay, particularly the Butuan boats, are evidence of the precolonial Filipinos’ craftsmanship, seamanship, and ingenuity. During festival season, parades take place on the Agusan River, one of Mindanao’s largest river basins. The river procession, according to local historians, serves as a reminder of the Agusan River’s significance and its role in shaping the vast landscape and communities in the surrounding area, which extends from the province of Agusan del Sur to the province of Agusan del Norte. What to wearShorts, jeans, jackets, shirtsWhat to bringWater, cash, extra shirt, bag, umbrella, cap or hat, sunscreen TRAVEL TIPS
