Experience the heights of sports tourism at Poblacion Beach in the heart of Sipalay during the Burangoy Tourism Kite Festival. The festival is held every March during the City Charter Anniversary Celebration. This is among the largest celebrations in Negros Occidental and Western Visayas and derives its name from local terms ‘burador’ (kite) and ‘barongoy’ (flying fish), symbolizing progress and development for the city.
Kite-flying is a cherished tradition in Sipalay, especially among children, who craft kites from leaves, cloth, and paper. The kite has become a symbol for the city’s flight toward progress. Visitors can join in the series of activities during the festival, including kite workshops, exhibits, parades, competitions, and showcases.
The Burangoy Tourism Kite Festival has earned acclaim for its festivities, securing three consecutive national grand champion titles from the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines and the Department of Tourisms Pearl Awards as the best sports tourism event in the country from 2017 to 2019.
